| CASE STUDY - SPIRIT PUB COMPANY |
 |
Spirit Pub Company, formerly Punch Taverns, has over 800 managed food pubs nationally and faces a challenging waste disposal problem.
Working with Convert2Green, Spirit has moved away from costly individual pub waste collection arrangements, to a national initiative to backhaul and recycle their waste.
Working with distribution partner, Wincanton, food waste, cardboard, plastics, metals and waste cooking oil are collected by the delivery vehicle taking food to the pub and consolidated at the Wincanton distribution site. Convert2Green then recycle a number of the different waste streams.
Convert2Green take food waste for anaerobic digestion, used to make green electricity and the waste cooking oil is processed by Convert2Green to bio-fuels for road transport, heat and power. All other materials are sent for re-processing.
As well as providing Spirit with significant cost savings in their waste management, the initiative with Convert2Green currently saves in excess of 60 tonnes of CO2 emissions per week.
Convert2Green are working with Spirit on a range of carbon and energy saving initiatives and the supply of renewable energy. |
