| CASE STUDY - CYGNET FOODS LTD |
 |
Cygnet Catering and Compact Catering, divisions of Cygnet Foods Ltd, are working with Convert2Green to recycle their waste cooking oil to bio-fuel.
Cygnet Foods supplies food and catering services to more than 30,000 people each day and began work with Convert2Green as part of the company’s enactment of IS0 14001 environmental management system.
The initiative provides bio-fuel for Cygnet's fleet of commercial vehicles delivering school meals, and also drives a power system at Cygnet’s central food production unit in Nottingham. The system also allows Cygnet to provide surplus electricity to the national grid, giving it the opportunity to buy renewable power for remote sites.
Convert2Green manage the oil collection from across Cygnet's catering estate and undertake the processing to bio-fuel, returning the green fuel for use within the company's road transport and power systems.
This initiative delivers Cygnet a guaranteed fully sustainable fuel source and an 85% reduction in their lifecycle carbon footprint. This is made possible, not only from the use of Cygnet's own waste oil, but due to the environmentally focused Convert2Green operation, which uses bio-fuel in its production, power and transport systems.
Convert2Green and Cygnet Foods were runners up in the 2009 Food Northwest Award for Environmental Sustainability. |
